HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
Course Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
This unit of competency must be updated every 3 years and the CPR component must be updated every 12 months to remain current.

Mode of Study
All First Aid units of competency are completed in 2 stages:
Stage 1 - online pre-reading and theory online assessment requirements via the Everyday learning online portal. This can also be completed as a written test on the day.
Stage 2 - face-to-face classroom practical assessment requirement Students are required to complete both stages to be deemed competent. The HLTAID009 unit of competency runs for the morning portion of the day, therefore students are only required to be in class from 9:30am – 12:00pm.
The HLTAID011 and HLTAID012 units of competency are a full day in class; therefore, students are required to be in class from 9:30am – 5:00pm.
Please note, HLTAID009 is incorporated into HLTAID011 and HLTAID012

This unit of competency does not have any entry requirements
Unit Assessments
Multiple choice quiz – completed online PRIOR to face to face session
Observation assessment/practical assessment tasks – completed in person
Physical Requirements
CPR is carried out in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation guidelines,
Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR on the adult/child manikin placed on the floor.
Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR on the infant manikin placed on a firm surface.
Additionally, the CPR practical demonstration is physically demanding, and we actively encourage all potential students to discuss any concerns with our enrolment officer prior to enrolling in the course and trainer on the day of the assessment.
Attendance
Once the online portion of the selected first aid unit of competency has been completed, students have 3 months to complete the practical portion of the unit. If students fail to complete the practical assessment within this period they will need to complete the online portion again.
Competencies
To be deemed competent in the selected unit of competency, students are required to successfully complete both forms of assessment.
Qualification
Upon successful completion of their chosen unit of competency, students will receive a Statement of Attainment.
Language Literacy and Numeracy
Due to the form of assessment and the format of the online portion of the units, it is recommended that all candidates be competent in written and spoken English.
Any language, literacy and numeracy concerns identified upon enrolment will either be referred internally to arrange appropriate support strategies or externally for additional support services. Internal support strategies vary depending on the student’s needs. Please speak to a student advisor for more information or to find out what would be right for you.
Support Services
A wide variety of support services are available to students to assist them with completing their chosen unit of competency. If amendments to unit resources are required, this is arranged upon enrolment.

Technical Requirements
To complete the online portion of the unit of competency, it is necessary for all students to have access to a computer that can play sound and has access to the internet. Due to this, students should have basic computer skills and the ability to follow instructions on how to use the online system.
It is highly recommended that students use either Google Chrome, Safari, or Firefox web browser as the online system may not be compatible with other browsers. Additionally, it is recommended that students do not use their mobile phones to access the system as this can create issues when completing the quiz.
