Coronavirus Management Procedure

The health and safety of our staff, students and visitors is paramount to FYI Education and training. To manage the exposure to and limit the spread of possible infection some measures below have been put in place to manage coronavirus outbreaks to help protect you. We are aware of and monitoring the constantly changing circumstances that are affecting our students with lockdowns and restrictions. We are committed to ensuring there is as little disruption to your course and devise flexible strategies so we can continue to support our students on their learning journey.

· Cleaning procedures have been put into place to ensure workspaces, kitchenettes and students desk are sanitised after every face to face class.

· Requirements for mask wearing

· Regular updates provided to students regarding placement and face to face learning

· Regular communication with trainer’s to ensure most current restrictions are being followed

· Restrictions to students per class to maintain social distancing guidelines

· Restrictions on density requirements in main foyer and common areas.

· All students will move to online learning via zoom if restrictions are put into place for face to face learning.

FAQs

Do I need to check in every time I am in class?

When arriving to any of the sites where classes are operating in either Epping, Lalor or Kilmore, students, staff and visitors must sign in using the Services Victoria QR code.

Can I continue studying my course?

Yes. All face to face training will be moved to zoom classes. Your trainer will be in contact with you via email to send you the zoom link for your classes. Attendance is very important as is engaging in your class. If you are having any issues using technology please contact your trainer.

I’m scheduled to begin placement, what happens now?

Placement is allowed for particular industries under the government COVID restrictions. You may still be able to attend placement. Our placement co-ordinator and compliance manager will be in contact with the COVID-19 government hotline for clarification as well as host employers and our students to clarify your particular placement situation.

If you have been advised by our placement co-ordinator or your trainer that you are unable to continue with your placement you are able to continue through the theory part of your qualification and placement will be postponed to once restrictions have eased and placement is rearranged.

How can I contact my trainer?

Your trainer’s are available via their email or phone. If you cannot get in contact with your trainer please get in contact with head office on 1300 884 133.

I’m struggling and need help who can I contact?

Communication is extremely important with your trainer. If you are struggling with course work or for personal reasons please let your trainer or student support know. We are here to help all our students and the best way we can do this is if we are aware of your circumstances.

How will I get my resources?

All students will be able to access resources via email that your trainer has sent to you.

If you are a paper-based learner, your trainer will email you the documents to allow you to print these resources off. If you do not have access to a computer, please let your trainer know and we will make alternative arrangements for you.

How will I submit my assessments?

Students will be able to type up your answers and email them to your trainer or hand write your assessments if preferred and scanned through to your trainer. The documents provided to you for your assessment will be sent through via email. An alternative would be to create a Word document with heading and tasks numbers for tasks you are submitting.

How will I receive feedback?

Feedback will be provided by your trainer either through a Zoom session or through email.

Who is the best person to contact if I have questions or am having trouble?

You should always see your trainer as a first point of contact if you need any help or have any questions in regards to your course content. If they are unable to assist you they will direct you to the correct person to support you.

Do I need the coronavirus vaccine?

Some students in the higher education and skills sector are now eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccination.

All Victorians aged 40 years and over are eligible for vaccination. Additionally, people aged 12 years or older are eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine if they are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people or have a specified underlying medical condition.

People aged 16 years and over are eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine if they are National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants.

Mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for students on placement in residential aged care COVID-19 vaccination will be mandatory from 17 September 2021 for all residential aged care workers, including students on placement. Students must have received a minimum first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by this time. If you have any concerns about your health and getting the COVID-19 vaccine, please speak to your GP or another health professional.

What to take to your vaccine appointment?

Eligible students should bring to the appointment:

• your student ID or work ID card AND

• a letter from our head office as evidence of your enrolment OR

• evidence of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration (for healthcare students).

Who is student support and how can they help me?

Student support is available to every student enrolled at FYI Education and Training. Our student support coordinator provides confidential and private discussions with students who may be struggling with finances, mental health and other issues in their personal life. Out student support co-ordinator can work with you to provide referrals to external services, organise study support plans, organise extra study support with your trainer and assessment extensions according to your circumstances. Assessment extensions are then forwarded to the Compliance Manager for approval.

Students undertaking training or placements in healthcare, or residential aged care and disability care settings, can access priority bookings via the Victorian coronavirus hotline. These students should call 1800 675 398 and tell the hotline operator they are part of one of these priority groups.
