Student Feature, Meet Edyn, now working in Early Childhood Education & Care after completing her studies at FYI!
Meet Edyn, she is a FYI Education & Care superstar having graduated from a Certificate III and Diploma in Early Childhood Education & Care she is passionately working in the industry. Learn more about Edyn’s story below.
What made you start studying at FYI:
“I had no idea what I wanted to do after school but I went to University anyway. I was doing something I hated but I did it because it was the only thing I got into. I wasn’t really too good at School and there was nothing I was really interested in.”
“My dad said you really enjoy spending time with your younger cousins and that, why don’t you give childcare a go? So I gave the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care a go and I enjoyed it. I was pretty good at it too because I actually tried with it, because I actually liked it.”
“When I finished my Certificate I went straight into my Diploma because I really liked it. I wanted to get it all done at the right time.”
The best parts about studying at FYI:
“I really liked my trainers Nan and Amanda. I had my face to face classes with Nan and you could literally ask her a question about anything and she would just know and answer straight away with a scenario ready because she has been through it.”
When I did the online component of my Diploma, every time I had a question Amanda was responding straight away and there to help.”
“Meeting the people in my class because I never might have met all the heaps of different people I did in my class.”
How do you like working in the industry?
“I enjoy it so much. The kids and the connections I have made with the kids is the best. You know some kids that need extra support and for their care givers to tell us that they love coming in to see you, it’s just so nice. And even when you think you haven’t made a strong connection, sometimes you have an it’s so nice to hear and experience.”
“The best thing about going to work every day seeing the kids happy that I am there. When they cry I am the first person they run to and I enjoy making them feel safe.”
How does it feel having finished both your courses?
“Really good, I don’t feel like I am behind anyone anymore and I feel like I know what I am doing more, I was working before but the studies gave me a confidence boost.”
What advice do you have for other students?
“Don’t just follow what everyone else is doing. Work out what you want to do first before sticking to it and try different things. School puts so much pressure to know what you want to do but it’s not always true. You don’t have to know and there’s different ways to get to where you want to go.”
Career Goals:
“I am currently really happy working in the kinder room but I eventually want to be a kinder Teacher.”
