Your guide to Practical Placement with FYI Education & Training

One of the best elements about practical placement is that you get a foot in the door & it allows you to gain real industry experience. When you study at FYI Education & Training all the hard work is done for you as we arrange your placement.

Here is a bit more information about what to expect and some insights into the experience.

Stay open to learning 

The most important part of your placement can be your attitude. The right attitude and willingness to learn can impact your experience. Many of our students gain employment from their placement, so enthusiasm and attitude shouldn’t be underestimated.  

When does Practical Placement get organised?

Our Placement Coordinator will be in contact with you if you are enrolled in face to face learning within the first 6 weeks of your course. If you are studying online, it will be within the completion of your first 6 units.  We will speak with you to organise facilities that best suit you.

Early Childhood Education & Care – Covid-19 Vaccination & Working with Children Check. Some services require you to have a police check.

Disability - Requires a police check & NDIS screening.

Aged Care & Leisure and Health– Police check, NDIS screening & Covid-19 Vaccination.

It is important that application for Working with Children Check, police checks and NDIS screening are completed nice and early in the course as It can interfere with you commencing placement if you have not received these forms of documentation.

Some placement hosts also require your resume, COVID testing prior to commencing, stat declaration and an immunisation status.

Getting organised

Four weeks prior to starting placement, The Placement Coordinator will be in contact to take your photo and get your sizing for uniform. Your placement agreement will be organised for you and your placement host to sign. This is where you will also introduce self to your facility.

When does placement start?

Placement starts once the placement agreement is signed by all parties on the agreed dates. Your trainer will go through workplace tasks with the you prior to commencing and observation visits will take place with the trainer during placement.

What hours should I expect?

Placement is from 9.00-5.00 for all industries except Individual Support which is 7.00-3.00 unless agreed upon with all parties. Placement does not run on public holidays or school holidays, school holidays can occur if agreed by all parties.

Certificate III Early Childhood Education & Care - 160 hours

Diploma Early Childhood Education & Care - 200 hours if you hold Certificate III Early Childhood Education & Care, 360 hours without Certificate III Early Childhood Education & Care

Certificate IV in Disability - 200 hours

Certificate III Individual Support - 160 hours of Personal Care Assistance & 40 hours of Lifestyle

Certificate IV Leisure & Health - 120 hours unless holding Certificate III in Individual Support then 80 hours        

Other things to note

All assessments must be up to completed before commencing placement.
